Minister announces end of Boiler Scrappage Scheme in England
Energy and Climate Change Minister, Lord Hunt, announced last week that due to the massive take up of the Government’s boiler scrappage scheme, all the vouchers have now been allocated to householders across England.
The scheme is therefore now closed to new applications.
People have up to 12 weeks after receiving their voucher to have the work done and claim the £400 off the cost of installation of a new, modern “A-rated” boiler or a renewable heating system like a biomass boiler or a heat pump.
The Government’s boiler scrappage scheme was launched in January 2010 with funding of £50m to upgrade up to 125,000 household heating systems in England to cut carbon, save money on fuel bills and sustain work for the heating industry.
Neil Schofield, Head of Sustainable Development at Worcester, Bosch Group commented:
“The Chancellor’s refusal to extend the scheme is very disappointing for the heating industry and will probably mean that all the momentum and interest that has been gained from installers and homeowners in energy efficiency will be lost.”
“There are still more than 4.5 million Band G boilers in operation and we must now hope that the next Government, of whatever colour, listens to the heating industry, picks up the mantle and extends this brilliant scheme further.”
Recently published figures show that, as of 16th March, 118,785 vouchers had been allocated and 35,390 boilers had been installed.
